Tympanoplasty with undersurface grafting technique

Abstract

|
Discussions of tympanoplasty with overlay fascial grafting and underlay grafting technique in literature have been reported. Recently attention has given to the tympanoplasty with undersurface grafting technique. When fascia is placed over the drum remnant several problems such as anterior sulcus blunting, graft lateralization, epithelial pearls and delayed hearing may occur. This is solved in large part by placing the graft undersurface of the annulus. This paper includes advantages and disadvantages of both techniques and a detailed discussion of undersurface grafting technique.
